Did you know - Rathborne.net
Posted on Friday, May 09 @ 07:55:09 IST by fandd

General Rathborne Section
Rathborne.net web site domain name was registered in February 2006.  Following a crash course in website content management systems I threw together this site which has been moulding since May 2006 into the site it is today.  My little hobby/project got just a little bigger than I had ever thought!  There is no specific ‘birthday’ for this site but it’s fair to say that it has now just gone two!

So .... Happy Birthday – rathborne.net!

It’s all well and good that ‘Fred’ started and maintained this site, but what has made it really work is ‘YOU’, the reader!  We have close to 300 registered members made up of owners and residents of the area and many hundreds of other people have and continue to just drop by without having to register to see what’s happening.               (click on read more below...)

What can YOU do?
Well don’t just be a passive reader of the site, help maintain this service by ensuring theres always reasons for visitors to come back. If you have some good news that needs passing on to all then let me know.  Sporting events, clubs, community activities, etc.  Now that we are coming into the Spring time people are going to want to do things and know what is out there for them!

Have you ever noticed the SUBMIT NEWS link in the left menu!?  - You can be the journalist! The news will be passed into a 'holding area' to be approved for the front page.

Or what about the RECOMMEND US option, also in the left menu? - Where you can send an email to a friend via the site easily to let them know about the details of this site!

The front page news has had much less updates owing to the activity that occurs in the forums.  The front page was news was always intended to be a broadcast and would reflect our public image to anyone interested in the area. So generally what makes it there will be the good things (or safety related)

The forums postings are great place to discuss and most of the activity is actually there now.  The forums allow registered members to contribute and perhaps discuss; the slightly more mundane, to the annoying, to the worrying events & issues that happen within any community.  (of course there is plenty of room for good news in there too!)

You can always pass on feedback or submit news that you thing could be of benefit to the wider community or just add your contribution in the forums to your specific area.  Any events you are aware of, involved in, or even organising can be easily broadcast to all reading this site, so do let me know and I will happily oblige.

What’s next?
Well as the site has not changed a great deal since its birth, buy I do have some plans to do a little bit of updating in the coming months.  Redecoration, Software updates and adding some little new features that will hopefully add to the usefulness of this site to YOU.

What will it cost!?
For me this is a hobby that has interesting and hopefully positive side-effects.  The cost's to date have not been high balanced for me by my interest in technology/internet and the area we bought our apartment in! So for you, the cost is Nothing!,you just drop by when you want, contribute when you can and if you find out about that news or shared problem then this site will be satisfying what it was set up to do.  Ensuring our neighbours are aware this site exists only helps to expand to as many residents in the Rathborne area.  ( primarily, but NOT exclusively, the residents and owners Rathborne phase1, Earlswood, The Village )

Thanks for playing your part!
Fred.
