I'd like to explain what Neighbourhood Watch is :)
Neighbourhood Watch is an exellent initiatve set up by An Garda Siochana. It is run and organised by our local Community Gardai in Cabra Garda Station. It entails, having one area co-ordinator over one area, ie. one area co-ordinator over Rathborne! Then there would be street co-ordinators over each street/ sector ie. the way, court, avenue etc. Each street co-ordinator will report back to the area co-ordinator and give updates on issues that are arrising on their streets. The area co-ordinator will report back to the Community Garda assigned to this area at the Community Watch meeting. This does not mean that every resident cannot attend the Neighbourhood Watch meetings, it is just a way of conveying problems appropriatley to the Gardai. Just want to add, any information that residents give is totally confidential and will never be given out. The most important part in keeping our Community safe is the community themselves :) Any questions on Neghbourhood Watch please contact me :) To contact anyone in relation the Neighbourhood watch process contact members of your respective committees. You can also view the postings on the forums section of Rathborne.net"

June bank holiday weekend car thefts
|
|
andy writes "Did you see anything? 4 or 5 cars were stolen from the underground car park in the Village Centre sometime between Sunday morning 3rd of June and Monday evening the 4th. Sadly one of these cars was mine. It would help if the timing could be narrowed down so the Gardai can focus on the right section of cctv surveillance. Please respond if you can help with this.
If anyone has had their car park key fobs stolen, can you please alert the management company so they can be deactiviated (give them the serial number). If you don't have the serial number, the mgt co. should know it as John Paul recorded them all at handover.
thanks, andy

A general residents meeting took place on Monday evening in the RiverCentre with local community Gardaí. The purpose was to give information on the role and presence of the Community Gardaí. One of the aims in the coming months would be to establish a Neighbourhood Watch scheme for this area. One point worth mentioning was that stats for the area on crime are low, which is great to hear. However it is known that some events are not being reported. Allocation of resources into an area are determined based on need, so if the stats collected are low then increased presence in the area would not happen. Developing a sense of community and awareness is the aim of Neighbourhood Watch schemes. It is not intended to attract vigilante or nosey neighbour behaviour, but together we can affect changes in the way crime is prevented or minimised in Rathborne. If you are interested in becoming involved in any small way send an e-mail to parkviewrathborne@gmail.com with your contact details, we hope to get interested persons to meet in the coming weeks. Community Garda Owen Twomey is assigned to our area and can be seen out on the beat regularly on mountain bike when he can. Garda Twomey has invited any resident in the area to contact him or his colleagues on the various contact numbers listed below. Don’t be afraid to report ALL crime or incidents of concern. Particular areas to ensure you contact the station are, but not limited to: - Joyriding / Speeding cars or bikes on the roads in the area.
- Suspicious activity in the underground car parks.
- Illegal drinking in public places, such as in or about the playgrounds and along the canal.
- Any break-ins or damage to vehicles, even if nothing appears to be taken.
- Stolen/Damaged Bikes
Cabra Garda Station : 01 6667400Community Garda desk numbers 01 6667420 / 01 6667421Community Garda Mobile 086 2053776
If you ring the station with any serious incident you could also ring the Community Garda Mobile too. You can also ring the mobile to discuss or chat about other issues of less serious nature too. Any interested parties will be given access to a special area of the forums to ensure that we can communicate on the matters relating to setup and establishing the Neighbourhood watch scheme. This should also help keep all those invovled informed without the need for frequent meetings. No personal involvement should require more than an hour every 1 to 2 months. Remember to get in touch by e-mail to parkviewrathborne@gmail.com or via the feedback link on the top left of this home page.
